This page talks about cauliflower health benefits as well as growing the Snowball Y for our fall crop. The Snowball Y is grown organically.
Smooth, tight curds on dwarf plants with upright leaves. Introduced in 1947 by Ferry Morse; Snowball Y is an excellent variety for the garden. Dwarf plants have dense self-wrapping heads and erect outer leaves that offer good protection from blanching. Heads can be harvested over a long period. Well-suited to short seasons. Great for fall crop. Heads are six to seven inches wide.
Cauliflower plants can be direct sown or started in seed trays. We are going to start ours in seed trays. I have a shed with lights and A/C so I am set up to do this.
Today is 7-29-2015. I hope to start these on the 30th and will take a video.
10-18-2016: Well things have not gone as planned. My plants were looking healthy and ready to transplant out in the garden. Then something ate all my plants down to the stub. I have not been able to find out what it was.
Cauliflower is an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, pantothenic acid, and vitamin B6. It is a very good source of choline, dietary fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, manganese, phosphorus, and biotin.
Additionally, it is a good source of vitamin B2, protein, vitamin B1, niacin, and magnesium.
In my opinion, the best cauliflower is organic, open-pollinated and grown in your own garden. This way you know what has been used to grow it.
We will show you how to grow your own cauliflower.
2-14-2017 Well I just ran across this page and realize it is not complete. We started some cauliflower here at our shop two weeks ago but we did not give them enough light so they grew thin and tall, and crashed over. I am starting all over on these.
We will post some pictures in a few days.
Check out this website on cauliflower health that was sent to me by Kate.
Click here to see a video on planting cauliflower. It is also the way to plant many types of seeds.
Click here to see a video on long and thin cauliflower. It surfaced on the weekend and we were not here to give it sunlight.
Click here to see what happened at two weeks with about six hours of sunlight.
I had to pull the plants up and replant. This time I am putting them in the greenhouse.
