This page talks about growing Chinese forget me not seeds.
Chinese forget me not, Cynoglossum amabile also called Chinese hound’s tongue, is a flowering, ornamental annual native to Asia. While not a true forget me not, the flowers to look remarkably close to a true forget me not (Myosotis). The plants are quite productive, blooming all summer, and will attract butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators. This dash of beautiful blue will add vibrant color to flower beds, borders and cottage gardens. Chinese forget me nots grow to a height of 18 to 24 inches.
While you can directly sow Chinese forget me nots, transplanting is recommended to their lifespan. Begin 7 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds in small pots and barely cover them. Place the small pots into a tray that’s at least a few inches deep. Fill the tray about 2/3 full. The soil in the pots will draw water up through the pots and water keep the seeds moist without displacing any soil. Place the trays in a dark place as darkness is required for germination. The seeds should germinate within 5 to 8 days from planting.
Once they have sprouted, you’ll want to move them into the light. Once the last frost has passed and ground is workable and has warmed, harden off plants by slowing introduces them to outside world for increasing increments of time. Doing this slowly will help the plants adjust to the dramatic climate change between indoors and outdoors.
Choose an area of the garden that receives full sun. Some shade is also okay, but the plants do best in full sun. Chinese forget me nots prefer rich, well-draining soil so mix some compost into the soil before planting. After choosing the perfect location and preparing the soil, plant your Chinese forget me nots, spacing them 9 to 12 inches apart. Firmly press the soil around the plant and water well after transplanting. Additional care includes keep the soil moist, but not soggy and using your favorite flower fertilizer from time to time, following the instructions on the package. The flowers should begin blooming in 75 to 85 days and they should continue blooming all throughout the summer.
To directly sow Chinese forget me nots, begin after the last frost as soon as the soil can be worked. Choose a location with full sun and be sure to mix some compost into the soil before planting. Gently press the seeds into the soil. Do not bury the seeds. Keep the soil moist until the seeds have sprouted. Once their first true set of leaves have emerged, thin to one strong plant every 9 to 12 inches.
You can begin harvesting your Chinese forget me nots when about ½ the florets are open.
Chinese forget me nots look beautiful in bouquets and vases alone or mixed in with other complimentary flowers. To get a more rustic bouquet look, mix the brilliant blue Chinese forget me nots with white daisies and carnations with plenty of their natural greens included.
