Here is a page onGrowing four o clock flowers in your backyard garden.
Four o’clock is great for beginners to grow because it’s impossible for this flower to fail in the garden!
Before planting, choose a location with full sun (four o’clock can thrive in some shade, but are the most successful in sunlight) and fertile, well-drained soil. To prepare planting your four o’clock flowers, loosen the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches with a garden shovel or fork, and mix in some compost to improve the structure of the soil and its drainage. Than fertilize with a slow-release fertilizer. Once fertilizer is applied, rake the soil until its smooth, making sure to remove any large clumps and rocks.
Once the danger of frost has past, plant your four o’clock seeds directly into the ground 4-6 inches apart, cover the seeds lightly with soil, and press gently.
After planting, water the soil to keep it moist for a week or 2 to help seeds germinate. Once seedling are a few inches tall, thin the four o’clock flowers by removing extra plants until the flowers are at least a foot apart. Be sure to pull any surround weeds, and apply organic mulch to prevent weed growth and help retain soil moisture. Water your four o’clock flowers during the summer drought.
Four o’ clocks will begin flowering in mid-late summer, and continue into the fall.
Enjoy your four o’ clock flowers and enjoy!
