This page talks about growing hollyhock flower seeds.

Hollyhocks are great for borders or against walls and fences because the flowers stand tall above all the other flowers in the garden.  Hollyhocks grow up to 9 feet tall, and are usually white, light-pink, magenta, and burgundy.  Because of this, hollyhock flowers attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Before planting your hollyhock, choose a site in your garden that receives full sun (partial shade is also fine) and has rich, moist soil.  Work in organic matter (compost and aged animal manure) to the planting site to condition the soil and improve drainage.  Adding organic matter will also increase the soil’s ability to hold water and nutrients.

1-2 weeks before the last frost, sow hollyhock seeds directly into the ground 18-36 inches apart.  Hollyhock seeds will germinate in 10-14 days.  After planting, be sure to water the hollyhock seeds, and add an organic fertilizer every few weeks for best results. Hollyhocks should bloom a full year after planting.  When the flowers fade, cut the stalks to the ground.

Hollyhocks are biennials, meaning they grow foliage the first year and flower, form seeds, and die the next year.  Hollyhocks will cross-pollinate with each other.  Seeds can be harvested from hollyhocks when the seed capsules are completely dry and brown.  The capsules can be picked, and the seeds separated from the paper-like husk to be planted in the ground for new hollyhock flowers to grow.
