The page provides written and visual instructions on growing tithonia flower seeds.
Tithonia, more popularly known as the Mexican Sunflower, thrives in heat, and can grow up to 6 feet tall. The flower is much similar to a sunflower, but smaller in size, and the red, yellow, and orange petals are more spread out around the flower head.
Because of its height, tithonia is grown best towards the back of the garden to make a border. Tithonia is easy to grow in full sun, and is tolerant of heat and drought conditions.
Once the last spring frost has passed, sow the tithonia seeds two feet apart in moist soil. Allow the seeds 4-10 days to germinate. Because the seeds need light for germination, don’t cover the tithonia seeds. Tithonia need little water and fertilizer to thrive.
Deadhead the fading blooms to allow for other blooms to appear. Tithonia is normally not invasive, but if it does, be sure to remove the plants from the unwanted area in your garden.
Enjoy the blooms of your tithonia and happy gardening!
