Happy Spring Planting!

Hello and happy Friday! We have been busy making strawberry jam in our commercial kitchen. We live in the strawberry capital of Texas, Poteet! Today, the Poteet Strawberry Festival starts and it ends on Sunday. We love strawberries. Before you go to the festival, come by David's Garden SeedsĀ® Farm Store and get some strawberry jam and some strawberry seeds so you can grow your own!

Growing Marigolds

Marigolds can be planted just because they are pretty. They can also be planted in between the vegetables in your garden to keep certain harmful bugs off of your vegetable plants, while attracting some beneficial insects to your garden.

We offer three types of marigold: African, French, and signet (gem) marigold. African marigold (Tagetes erecta), with its large flower heads atop long, sturdy stems, makes an excellent cut flower. French marigolds (Tagetes patula) are an excellent choice for container sales and garden planting. Signet marigolds (also known as gem marigolds) are bite sized for use as edible flowers and also attract beneficial insects to the garden.

Marigolds take between 50 and 90 days to bloom. Here is the link to our Marigold Seeds.

Some people call the herb Calendula flowers "Pot Marigolds", but they are not related to the flowers most people know as marigolds. If you would like to plant Calendulas, the seeds are here.

Marigolds can be orange, red, yellow, white, lime green, or multicolored. Some have little to no scent while others have that all too familiar and not quite pleasant marigold scent.

When growing vegetables, we like to plant marigolds in between the rows to attract beneficial insects and to repel the bad insects. This is actually part of a gardening process called Companion Planting.

Our Farm Store

Come on out and visit our farm. We give tours. Right now, we are building a gazebo with a waterfall and a small pond right next to our farm store.

Our physical store is located at 5029 FM 2504, Poteet, TX.

While you are here, you can get plants, farm fresh chicken eggs in a beautiful array of colors, a barbecue grill to kick off spring, and strawberry jam. We are adding new things all of the time.

You will enjoy the drive out. Once you get off of I35 or 1604, enjoy the country roads. There are horses and cows to see almost everywhere! Our store is open from Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 10am until 2pm. We are closed on Sundays.
