This page gives instructions on how to buy doomsday hybrid cabbage seeds from David's Garden Seeds.
David's picks are the Ruby Perfection and the Storage #4.
Cabbage Ruby Perfection 1000 Non-GMO, Organic, Hybrid Seeds
Fancy fall storage red. The No. 1 mid-late red cabbage. The heads are medium-sized and dense with a uniform high-round shape and good wrapper leaves. Good field-holding ability. Matures just in time for late summer crops or fall harvest for medium-term storage. Resistant to thrips. Harvest in about 85 days.
Cabbage Storage No. 4 1000 Non-GMO, Hybrid Seeds
Excellent eating quality from storage. For fresh use and storage. Makes nice cabbage even under fertility or weather stress. Firms up in as few as 75 days for fresh use, continuing to enlarge to 4-8 lb. for midfall harvest. The solid heads have delicious, crisp leaves and are capable of long-term storage into spring. Flavor is superior to the typical cabbages available at the supermarket. Harvest in about 95 days.
Plant storage cabbage varieties so they mature just before fall frosts start to become a regular occurrence. After harvest, whole heads can be stored well into the winter months.
Keep in mind that hybrid plants are not good for seed production.
All of the variety information on the David's Garden Seeds® website, including the days to
maturity, color and size are based on data from tests done at specific
locations. Many factors, including geographic location, daytime and
nighttime temperatures, the availability of plant nutrients, many unknown climate factors and insects/pest interact to determine a variety's
performance. For information on which varieties will perform best in
your area, we recommend that you contact your local county extension agent or a Master Gardener.
