High-yielding serrano. Hot Rod is a traditional serrano averaging 3 inch fruits borne on big plants over a long harvest period. The dark green fruits are traditionally eaten green but also make fine chipotles if allowed to ripen to red. A couple of days later, but much higher yielding, than Serrano Del Sol, which it replaced. Intermediate resistance to potato virus Y and tobacco etch virus. 

Harvest in about 70 days.

This heirloom serrano pepper is another of the classic hot peppers and one of the most commonly used for cooking. The Serrano provides a medium-hot taste, and is typically not over-powering to most palates. The pods of the Serrano can be eaten in either their green or red form. An excellent traditional style serrano, this pepper has five times the heat of a jalapeno! Peppers change from green to bright red and are very hot during both stages. Best used fresh in salsas, sauces, soups and stews.
