Common Valerian is one of nature's best herbal sedatives.  Medicinal: Root used for nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia, and pain relief. Calming tonic for domestic animals.  Also known as garden heliotrope, cat's valerian, set-well, and St. George's herb. The common variety, naturalized in some areas.  Hardiness zones 3-9. is a hardy perennial flowering plant, with heads of sweetly scented pink or white flowers which bloom in the summer months. Valerian flower extracts were used as a perfume in the sixteenth century. Native to Europe and parts of Asia.  Harvest in about 500-550 days.
