This is our page on doomsday cherry tomato. It tells how many cherry tomatoes one would need to grow to survive.
One cup of tomatoes contains about 30 calories. It will take a lot of cherry tomatoes to fill up one cup. Tomatoes have many wonderful benefits. You can read about these on the internet.
But you would not want to live on a diet of tomatoes. Hopefully there will be other things to eat.
A fresh tomato will only last about 7 to 14 days.
So based on a 1200 calorie diet, one would need to consume about 40 cups of tomatoes per day.
One really does not get the output needed from cherry tomatoes in order to eat enough for survival.
Grow a few to have on hand fresh but I would not spend the time and resources it would take to produce a lot of cherry tomatoes.
There are many YouTube videos that talk about recipes for tomato storage. There are also many videos that explain how to save seeds from tomatoes. We will not repeat this information.
You will want to have materials on hand for processing your tomato harvest into salsa, ketchup or canning them.
