This is our Doomsday Pepper Seeds home page. It is an index to all of our doomsday pepper seed pages.
There are many types of peppers.
There are two types of sweet peppers: Bell and Specialty Peppers.
There are also many types of hot peppers. There are Cayenne, Chili, Hot, Jalapeno, Ornamental and Serrano just to name a few.
Sweet peppers have about 38 calories each while hot peppers have about 30 calories or less.
To maintain a 1200 calorie diet one would need to eat about 38 sweet peppers a day. You could get about 10 sweet peppers a plant so that would be 4 plants per day or 1380 plants.
Hot peppers are better for spicing things up. It would be impossible to eat enough hot peppers to keep you alive.
You can also use them as an insect repellent. Hot peppers (jalapeno, hot, Serrano, chili and cayenne) will produce for about 5 to 6 years as long as they do not freeze.
All peppers can be dried for storage and hot pepper types can be dried and crushed into a powder which will last for several years.
Most peppers start out as green and when they are allowed to change colors they have a sweeter taste. Red, yellow and orange peppers have an exceptionally sweet taste.
All of the variety information on the David's Garden Seeds® website, including the days to
maturity, color and size are based on data from tests done at specific
locations. Many factors, including geographic location, daytime and
nighttime temperatures, the availability of plant nutrients, many unknown climate factors and insects/pest interact to determine a variety's
performance. For information on which varieties will perform best in
your area, we recommend that you contact your local county extension agent or a Master Gardener.
