These Sunflowers Are Growing Taller And Taller

by Jean T
(Texas)

I started a giant sunflower garden in an area on my property that I call the "wild area" because it's right next to the arroyo and has always been wild with weeds. I began fixing it up this year with a water feature and baby trees and lots of lavender and other plants. The soil here is clay filled with cobbles for several feet below the surface, but the pocket gophers are helping me by throwing the cobbles to the surface along with the soil. I'm throwing the cobbles into a rock pile and shoveling the soil into barren areas or back into the holes. Given enough time the gophers will surface all the cobbles, unless they give up and move away.

All of the variety information on the David's Garden Seeds® website, including the days to maturity, color and size are based on data from tests done at specific locations. Many factors, including geographic location, daytime and nighttime temperatures, the availability of plant nutrients, many unknown climate factors and insects/pest interact to determine a variety's performance. For information on which varieties will perform best in your area, we recommend that you contact your local county extension agent or a Master Gardener.
